Are you going on a plane this summer with children?\u00a0 Or any summer for that matter?\u00a0 Most likely you’ll think …\u00a0 “money, passport, tickets” <\/em>…..as you leave the house.\u00a0 But I’d advise adding “games”<\/em> to your list of indispensable items.\u00a0 When Easyjet announce a 4-hour wait in some poxy little airport with overpriced mags and drinks that your children simply\u00a0MUST have to stay reasonable, you can whip out one of the following:<\/p>\n

Bananagrams \u2013 \u00a0we played this all holiday and it can be played by a family of all ages.\u00a0 Sort of freeform scrabble but good for vocabulary building and good for competitive children.\u00a0 http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Winning-Moves-BAN001-Bananagrams-Game\/dp\/1932188126<\/a><\/p>\n

BrainBox History\/Maths\/The World etc \u2013 the ten-minute memory recall game.\u00a0 It\u2019s really quite difficult even for adults but mind-broadening, general-knowledge-encouraging fun and good for all ages too.\u00a0 http:\/\/www.brainboxgame.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Chess \u2013 no explanation needed.\u00a0 In our recent chess phase (which has sadly now been superceded by PSP’s FIFA 2010 game) we played out one of the chess grandmaster games Karpov v Kasparov\u00a0from 1984\u00a0World Chess\u00a0Championships.\u00a0 (It was a very<\/strong> long wait\u00a0at that particular airport).<\/p>\n

Boggle – my children have now cottoned on to the fact that this is\u00a0actually\u00a0more work than it feels when you are\u00a0having fun shaking the Boggle box.\u00a0 But still, it’s good for the first few games and you can always revisit it later.\u00a0\u00a0You’ll need to add paper and pencil to your list of indispensable airport items for this one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
